Buying a pony

Finding the right pony is so pivotal to building a jockey’s confidence and helping them progress as a rider and horseperson. Whilst I am a strong believer that it is always a process finding a new pony, I can help make it as easy and stress free as possible. I work in a supportive, non-judgmental way, acting as a sounding board and the boring voice of reason if needed!

Introduction Service

It very often used to be that you were introduced to a new pony by word of mouth and I think many of us still hanker after that degree of accountability and personal connection. I have many conversations with those in the pony world looking for their child’s next steed; some proactively and others just keeping their ear to the ground.

I have created the introduction service to try and help as many people as possible whilst providing a personal link between buyer and seller.

How it works:

  • We ask initially that you sign up to the newsletter and complete the buyer’s questionnaire

  • We will then give you a call to chat through your responses so we can get a really good sense of where you are pony wise currently and what you are looking for in the next pony

  • All ponies will be listed on the newsletter – if any catch your eye, please do get in touch

  • We collate really detailed profiles on each pony to help you decide if they would suit your child and your set up, as well as taking independent references

  • If we all think it would be a good match, we will exchange contact details and the rest is up to you and the seller

Cost

An introduction fee of £250 will be charged if you purchase the pony.

Consultancy Services

With many years’ experience sourcing ponies and supporting my clients through the buying process, I also offer my services on a bespoke basis.

How it works

  • Initial assessment - I will physically come to meet you, your child/children and see them ride. This really helps me to understand your child’s riding and where you are currently pony-wise. It is also invaluable to see where the pony will be kept. We can then sit down, chat through everything and work out our priorities for the search.

  • Bespoke search - I will use a combination of approaches to look for your new pony; my personal contacts, wanted ads on social media and scouring the selling sites on your behalf. I often source ponies not yet on the open market.

  • Attending viewings - I can attend viewings with you to support you and your child through the process, which often helps make what can be a nerve-wracking experience more enjoyable and confidence-building.  I can also view independently on your behalf  in the first instance.

  • Negotiation and logistics - I can negotiate the purchase on your behalf and organise the logistics such as vettings and transport.

Cost

I charge £250 for the in-person assessment, which includes travel (within a certain radius of my base in the Cotswolds - further afield always possible!). During our time together we can discuss your individual needs and I will create a bespoke package.

Getting Started

Please complete the buyer’s questionnaire and I will call you for an initial chat at a time to suit.
